Accessibility Statement
Last Updated: May 28, 2026
The Pedal Pals Adventure Hub is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities. We want every rider, parent, and teacher to have an outstanding experience while learning about bicycle safety, playing games, and mapping routes.
We are continuously improving the user experience and applying the relevant accessibility standards to make our site accessible, inclusive, and easy to navigate.
1. Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Pedal Pals is designed and developed to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards, which also aligns with compliance requirements for the US Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act for educational and public platforms.
2. Accessibility Features We Support
Key features implemented throughout our website include:
- Keyboard Navigability: All interactive controls (like game hubs, menus, forms, and quizzes) can be navigated and activated using a keyboard alone. Focus rings are highly visible.
- Screen Reader Compatibility: We utilize semantic HTML elements and ARIA roles/labels to ensure screen readers can accurately interpret the layout and elements of our pages.
- Color Contrast: Text and user interface components are styled to maintain a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against their backgrounds, making content legible for users with low vision.
- Text Alternatives: Decorative and informative images on our pages (such as character art and printable worksheets) include descriptive
alttext. - Responsive Layouts: The site is fully responsive, allowing magnification and zooming up to 200% on standard browsers without text clipping or layout breaks.
3. Ongoing Challenges & Work-in-Progress
While we strive for complete conformance, some dynamic interactive elements may pose accessibility challenges:
- Trail Maps: Interactive maps (powered by Mapbox) can be complex for keyboard-only and screen reader users. We are working on providing text-based alternative descriptions of all trails and routes.
- Interactive Games: Certain drag-and-drop or fast-paced games may not be fully keyboard-navigable. We aim to offer equivalent quiz-based and worksheet-based safety alternatives in our Education Hub.
4. Feedback and Contact Information
